  of ministry (Peggy will be recognized along with other lay ministers)\n\n
 \nSaturday June 6th\n\n9:30 AM service of ordination and commissioning by 
 Bishop Kennetha Bigham-Tsai (an incredibly moving "high church" service)\n
 \n\n\nBackground on Annual Conference\nEach year the Illinois Great Rivers
  Conference (IGRC) gathers together for an annual business conference. All
  United Methodist Churches partiicpate in annual conferences within their 
 local conferences.  Pastor Nick\, Alan\, and Peggy will be attending from
  our congregation.\nThe purpose of the annual conference is to make discip
 les of Jesus Christ by equipping its local churches for ministry and by pr
 oviding a connection for ministry beyond the local church. The annual conf
 erence consists of clergy and lay members. Clergy membership consists of d
 eacons and elders in full connection\, probationary members\, associate me
 mbers\, affiliate members and local pastors under full-time and part-time 
 appointment to a pastoral charge. The lay membership of the annual confere
 nce shall consists of professing members elected by the charge\, diaconal 
 ministers\, deaconesses\, home missioners\, the conference president of Un
 ited Women in Faith\, the conference president of United Methodist Men\, t
 he conference lay leader\, district lay leaders\, the conference scouting 
 coordinator\, the president of the conference young adult organization\, t
 he conference youth organization\, the chair of the annual conference coll
 ege student organization\, one young person between the ages of 18 and 30 
 from each district and one young person between the ages of 12 and 17 from
  each district (¶601\, 602.1\,.4\, The Book of Discipline\, 2020/2024).
 \nThe annual conference is the basic unit of the connectional system and r
 efers both to a yearly meeting of its members as well as the organizatio
 nal structure that equips local congregations to do its ministries and pro
 vide a connection beyond the local church.
